Service to Antique Bicycle Causes:
- Personally Provided the Funding that allowed the Indianapolis Wheelmen Meet to use the Indianapolis 500 Track for the OHWT. This was a personal contribution commitment to the Indiana Wheelmen (check sent to Indiana Wheelmen which was received and cashed) of $1800 to make it so that they would not need to back down from their published commitment to have the use of the Indy Track. This was needed when the Indy officials surprised them with a high insurance bill, after the Indianapolis Wheelmen had announced that the Track would be used for the OHWT. The club needed to cover the bill if we were to use the track. I guaranteed the insurance coverage with a donation of the $1800. The Indiana club did then solicit and receive other donations, which allowed them to refund $ 600 leaving my net donation for that event of $1200.
- Provide Loans of Ordinaries and Safeties to Museums for Transportation Displays (Brekenridge, Colorado at the Summit County Historical Society Museum, Golden Pioneer Museum, Astor House Museum, Molly Brown Museum, Aurora Colorado Museum, Greeley City Museum Gilpin History Museum.
- Provide A Free Museum of Cycle History and give Free Tours to Cub Scouts, School Groups, Senior Citizen Groups, Bike Clubs, Etc. The Web Page for this museum is www.brekus.org/wheelmen/goldenoldy.
- Provide Antique Bicycle displays at Clear Creek History Park, Golden, Colorado in conjunction with their special events.
Give lectures on The History of Cycling to many groups like Rotary, Optimist, Summer Camps, Denver Bicycle Touring Club, etc.
- To widen the international scope of the Wheelmen, I personally invited English antique bike enthusiasts Tony and Elsie Huntington to come to the 1995 Dearborn Annual meet...and provided their Airline Tickets free of charge. They have become very active in the Wheelmen since then, and are now the UK Captains.
- Again in 2002, I provided Tony, Elsie, and Alice Huntington free Airline trips to the Golden Wheelmen meet. Their contribution to the meet was very positive in providing a cultural exchange and high technical skills in Antique Bike Restoration.
- Provided Australian Kathy Ham airline travel and accomodation for trips to Wheelmen meets in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2002 because of the charm her Australian touch would add to the meets. She did captivate all she met.
- Made a major effort in organizing the 2002 Wheelmen meet in my new home town - Golden, Colorado.
- Assisted Carey Williams in the early planning of the 2003 Wheelmen meet as well as in procuring the Attendance medals from silver craftsman in Denver, Colorado. Also, I assisted at the meet in taking over when Carey went to the Hospital and I led the OHWT as well as steeping in to get judges for and to act as Master of Ceremonies for the Trick Riding World Championship. I rode the Long Version Century Course in front of the main rider group (along with Dave Walker with a 5:30 AM start) and we set the flags on the course which the others followed.
- The club has in the past been under represented in the US West. I am trying to help develop the membership here in Colorado and throughout the West by providing regular quarterly events for antique cycles and riders. I distribute the Colorado Wheelmen newsletter to Wheelmen from all adjacent states.
- When I was an Illinois Wheelmen: Participated in the Illinois Wheelmen's special show on the Nationally Televised Bozo Circus. This was arranged by Carey Williams, and was very well received.
- Provided televised interviews about Antique Bikes and the Wheelmen on Denver's Channel 2 upon 2 occassions during 2001. I have gotten the Penny Farthing into the Denver TV viewers mind 1-2 times a year each year since 2001.
